Is BBC Breakfast in Tatters?
I like BBC Breakfast on the television and generally watch it, as I do my morning chores.
It would appear now, that Sian Williams is to follow others and leave the show, when it goes to Salford.
THe move to Salford is surely one of the most ill-judged moves in British media history, as it will surely mean that many of the best presenters will leave. After all Manchester is not the place many would choose to live and there are many other jobs in London.
I also fear for the quality of other victims of this move, like Radio 5 and BBC Sport.
I feel fairly badly victimised here, as it appears the quality of what I like to watch and listen is about to suffer. As you know, I don’t watch ITV and other channels, unless what is on, is really unmissable, as I’m allergic to adverts.
Stop Winging it is called the BRITISH BC not the London BC There is life outside London and you are getting far too much as it is remember the rest of the Country.

Would the French run their flagship programs from Lyon or the Spanish from Barcelona? Of course not and the presenters know it, so they’re jumping ship.
Manchester is the problem, as it’s rather second rate and is probably the sixth city in the UK, after London, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool and Newcastle. It could even be lower, but I don’t know Bristol and Cardiff well enough.

I quite agree when so much takes place in London and the ease of getting to the capital as compared to the North West. Yes, by all means have a studio there but to actually be based there is ridiculous.

Can you imagine a famous actor appearing in a play in London, bothering to go to Manchester for a publicity spot?
Will major politicians or businessmen, who normally work in London, waste a day going to Manchester for a thirty minute interview?
They’ll probably still do radio though, as then it doesn’t matter where you are. But as serious businessmen and academics probably wouldn’t be seen dead on tabloid television, such as ITV, BBC Breakfast will end up as a very much poorer product.
It will be back in London after it’s inevitable relaunch due to the poor viewing figures. But only after the Director General changes!
