Why Don’t The Police Have Fake Tasers?
There’s a whole list of safety issues concering tasers and they are documented here.
Would it not be sensible to create a fake one, that to the untrained eye looked like real one? These could be issued to officers and would be used in a first instance, as one of the Met’s experts has just said, that when most people see a taser, they calm down and give up.
Fake weapon is worse than no weapon, I suppose. When someone is threatened with a weapon, they assume the danger is real and act accordingly, and that often means not calming down but attacking – and you cannot retaliate with a fake gun.

They were talking about using tasers on people who weren’t armed with a lethal weapon and probably in places where there was no danger to the office. The officer said that in many cases, when a policeman arms his taser and sees the red dot, they back down.
