Don’t Use Highbury And Islington Station
This post is to remind me not to, until they finish the current works!
I used it on Tuesday and found that the down escalator was under maintenance, so I had to walk down.
That wasn’t too much of a pain, but I like to avoid it if I can.
This morning, when I wanted to get to Oxford Circus, I found that the whole entry was choked and so I decided to walk to Holloway Road instead.
The latter was suggested by one of station staff, who obviously thought I could walk it.
So that must have been some sort of back-handed compliment.
incidentally, Highbury and Islington station is one of those with three escalator positions and only two escalators. I wonder if in the next few months, they do the sensible thing and install the third escalator.
If they do, surely they should have done that before taking the down escalator out of action for several months.

[…] But then I got stuck in the jam of those getting into the station for fifteen minutes. Transport for London haven’t seemed to have organised the escalator servicing in the best way possible. I should have taken my own advice. […]

i was googling scalator in highbury and islington and found this blog. I have an idea, which is clear in your picture above. I think they should adapt the scalator separation and make it a slide. This will ease the chaos by speeding commuters down.
tfl will have legitimate safety concerns but anyone happy to use it – rest can still go down the stairs-can waive liability by signing a previos statement or something.A minimun investement to adapt it to make it a bit safer will benefit thousands of commuters and for some, may even be a good ride.
how can i make this happend? I was thinking wrting the metro paper… dont know. help

Health and Safety would have a field day. Better handrails would help as well.
I don’t know whether you’ve used it lately, but it’s chaos.
i had to go to Waterloo yesteday, where I’d usually go from there to Oxford Corcus to change to the Waterloo. But a 38 bus came along, where I get on so I went to Piccadilly Circus. It was a NB4L and there was no sign of the overheating problem, as it was cool upstairs.
