Norfolk Boreas Windfarm Work Could Resume After Energy Price Rise

The title of this post, is the same as that of this article on the BBC.

This is the sub-heading.

There are growing hopes that work on a £10bn windfarm off the Norfolk coast will resume after the government agreed to pay more for energy production.

The first three paragraphs, indicate how positions have changed,

Earlier this year, Swedish company Vattenfall paused work on Norfolk Boreas located 50 miles off the coast of Cromer.

But ministers have agreed to a 66% increase in the amount they will pay for offshore electricity generation.

Vattenfall described the move as “a very positive signal”.

It certainly looks like the Government is looking more favourably at wind power developers.

  1. They already have a CfD in place under AR4 no suggestion from govt there going to renegotiate that so presumably they would seek an AR6 CfD instead? Why did they bid so low for AR4 seems pretty naff commercial decision to me as there was no way manufacturing & installation costs had dropped so much. they arent microprocessors. Risk now is after losing 12mths from AR5 there will be extra demand loaded onto the supply chain which is already being sweated by every coastal country chasing offshore wind now.

  2. So who pays exactly? The government – i.e. you the tax payer or users – i.e. you the consumer. I think we should be told who will pick up the tab!

    • I also suspect that there’s a bit of a BTGOF (Buy Two Get One Free) deal with Aker over sub-stations. Perhaps too if they are all delivered in a row, then Vattenfall have got a better deal.

I’d love to see Vattenfall’s cashflow forecasts of the various scenarios.
