The Anonymous Widower

I Have An HP LaserJet P1102w Going Free

The printer is offered with a new unopened print cartridge.

Note.

  1. It is about seven years old.
  2. It gave me no problems on Windows 7.
  3. I couldn’t get the printer to work with my new computer, which uses the dreaded Windows 10.
  4. As I suspect the computer will update itself unilaterally to Windows 11.
  5. I need an occasional A4 copying facility.

It was cheaper to buy a new HP DeskJet printer at £46.99 from Currys, than pay an expert to sort the problem.

I live in London N1.

  1. Both of mine are Brother and about 20yo. One cost £50 and includes a scanner, but I don’t use the inkjet printer in it. Both worked happily on Windows XP, 7, 8.1pro and W10 pro. I have also inherited a Dell colour laser all in one, which works happily over Ethernet with W10. Try unistalling and reinstalling yours.

W7, W8 and the short lived W8.1 DID update automatically to W10 [for free!]. You will have to PAY for W11 and probably also need new hardware with a trusted platfrom module.

Most modern “all in ones” will make convenience copyies either on their on or via your PC. Many phones will format a photo of a document page for print our and print using Wi-Fi direct.

Ink jet printers are dirt cheap, but it is cheaper to refill them with malt whisky than fresh ink…

  2. My new inkjet printer cost me £47 and it is Windows 10+ ready.

The trouble is that all hardware and software companies are professional thieves.

And when you upgrade the software, features have been deleted and changed to deliberately annoy you. Gratuitous changes of specification should be a criminal offence.

  3. I have an Epson Stylus Office BX300F. Bought when Windows XP was in use. All in One printer and scanner.

Now working on Windows 11. Has worked on various other versions along the way.

Occasionally needs all the printer and scanner software to be re-installed after Windows upgrades. The drivers and scanner software is available in the Epson website – date stamps are several years old so old software working on Windows 11.
