Health and Safety Ruins Pancake Race

This story from the Daily Mail takes the biscuit.  Or should I say the pancake!

Further down they also have pictures from the pancake races at Olney in Buckinghamshire, which don’t have a speed restriction.  They have been taking place since 1445.  Perhaps the Mayor of Olney should appraise his opposite number at St. Albans.

  1. Sadly, this has little to do with ‘real’ health and safety. It is some official fearing litigation.

The problem is that this sort of action devalues the work of those who are concerned with significant safety issues. More than that,it is unnecessary.Volenti non fit injuria. @macbracsafety

  2. I’ve just had a game of real tennis. If I run hard for a ball I often collide with the wall. But I’ve learned how to brace myself properly.

Health and Safety would ban so many sports and especially those where you rode a horse, jumped anything or touched your opponent.
