Farringdon, Dunblane and now Cumbria
Do people never learn that guns kill people. I can’t see the fascination. On my office wall is a picture of C with Alec Scott who was murdered because things got out of hand and a shotgun was easily available.
All guns should at least be kept locked with two keys and two independent responsible keyholders, if nothing to prevent suicides. They banned the wrong thing when they banned hunting with hounds.
My heart goes out to all affected in Cumbria.
I agree this is an awful tragedy, and my heart also goes out to those involved. And I would like to see guns properly locked away, perhaps even stored at gun clubs.
But I live in Manchester, which had a big problem with gun crime before the laws tightened up after Dunblane. Now it has a big knife crime problem. Same crime, different weapon. So for areas like that, something else needs to be done to prevent the crime.
I realise though that this situation in Cumbria isnt part of the usual violent crime profile, and is much harder to prevent.

The trouble is all these men living lonely and to them wothless lives, often on the breadline. Somehow, we need to give these people support and focus. It’s the same with the kids.
