Don’t buy a Nokia X6 if you’ve had a stroke!

I have one of these phones and for my situation, they are designed all wrong.

My biggest problem is that I have had a stroke and I drop things or knock them on the floor.  If I dropped my Nokia 6310i, it just carried on working.  The X6 falls apart and you need to reenter date and time. It is totally unfit for my purposes.

It is a bit of a pity really about this lack of robustness, as I liked a lot about the phone.

I have just phoned O2 and they have agreed to swap the phone for something hopefully more suitable.  So that at least is a positive thing and a couple of stars at least for O2.  But they are generally very good over the phone and I’ve stayed with they for nearly 20 years.

  1. I too drop things, but for a different reason, I have nerve damage in my neck.

I now have a Samsung Touchscreen one, I am unsure of its model number. My aim is poor as well, and I find if I have to dial, I get on better with the bigger area available to aim at than little tiny buttons.

If you do tend to drop things, it is worth being careful around things which are hot or sharp as well, I cut myself and burn myself on occasions because I dont really feel the heat etc.

  2. I have a Nokia 6310i that I use much of the time, and I know a number of other people who do also. I do have a Nokia E63 which I change to whenever I feel that I ought to move to something more modern, but eventually I return to the 6310i.
The 6310i is a classic; it works extremely well as a telephone (which is what I want), it is a useful clock/alarm, the battery lasts all week, it fits all my cars, it has bluetooth for when I hire a car, it’s triband so works anywhere, the parts are readily available (I have had 3 new fronts), and the keypad is useable. I have a camera to take pictures, a laptop for IT (soon to be a replaced with one that is small and light), an iPod for music and podcasts.
The only thing I don’t like about it is the comments I get from idiots who think I am a dinosaur; and the fact that I have to clean/adjust the battery contacts from time to time so stop it switching off in my pocket (I use a good quality pencil rubber).
You can still buy a new one for 77 quid and the car kit for less than 40.

  3. I actually have two 6310Is. Of all the phones people have tried they work best in my X-type without trouble. One needs repair, but there is a company to do that in Enfield.
