Bonkers Windows
Because of my gammy left hand Windows is a nightmare.
Take just now. I was writing a post using WordPress and typing things into a large text box. For some reason, it just locked up and refused to accept any characters. I must have hit some control or Windows combination. It did allow U and then started talking to me through a dialog saying it would make my computer easier to you. What a load of crap!
Now if I try to restart the computer, it says my password is wrong. So I have to login to another account and then switch to the one I want.
It’s bad enough having a stroke, without having to fight all the way to work on the computer.
I’m actually on another laptop now, as the other is completely unworkable. For instance if I type a search into this blog, each key seems to bring up a new dialog. It’s almost as if the computer, thinks that the Windows Key is locked down.
Does anybody out there have any idea what is wrong?

I’ve seen something sort of similar where the Google search box displays a popup after each character I type and I need to dismiss it before I can type the next character. I’m pretty sure that was the browser or toolbar’s fault.
Unfortunately all the different tools are complex enough individually. When you put them all together, bugs are almost guaranteed. It doesn’t help that Microsoft and others seem to have taken a huge step backwards in terms of accessibility. I used to be able to fly through the menus using Alt-Whatever but with the stupid ribbon interface and some other changes (like dialogs don’t set focus properly and the accept button gets messed up), using the menus is much slower.
I wonder if speech recognition software would help make typing easier? I haven’t tried it (it’s on my long list of things to do) and, for example, don’t know whether it will help you switch between apps but it might reduce fat-fingered switches. (I do that, too. I bump the touchpad or button.)

Thanks, it’s all food for though.
Speech recognition might work, but I tried it for my late wife some years ago and it was useless. Remember that many stroke victims have bad speech, so voice recognition would be usdeless. My speech is OK, but I do swear a lot, at nhot being able to do what I want. I know that the driver I’ve specified would work, but how do I find someone to write it?
