Pouring Petrol on the Fire
I know it’s a very small group of religious nutters, who claim to be Christians, but surely staging a burning of the Koran, as reported here is not a sensible thing to do, given all the problems in Afghanisthan.
I don’t hold any candle for religion at all, but going out of your way to annoy someone, who thinks differently than you is never a good idea! Just think of all the problems there used to be between pairs of football teams in the UK, which could easily be ignited by stupid act by someone who had sawdust for a brain.
I also object to the burning of books, as even if you disagree with what they say, they have generally been put together to with care and thought and sometimes they have been crafted by a proper bookbinder.
But then as my father was a proper printer, I’m biased on the last point.
As you know I am a Christian. I am horrified by people buring the Qu’ran, but especially as it is Christians who are doing it, supposedly in the name of Jesus. Their action is borne out of ignorance, as so many such acts are; The Muslims believe Jesus was the messiah – they call Him Isa el Masih, and they pray to Him. I have a copy of the Qu’ran in English Translation. I treat it with respect – some would say more than I do the Bible, my Bible is full of margin notes, highlights, underlines etc, and I dont do that to the Qu’ran since if I was in the position of discussing it with a Muslim, they would be appalled at seeing it written in!

I was brought up never to write anything in a book, unless of couurse it was designed for that purpose, like say a Pilot’s Log Book or an Accounts Book.
In my father’s view, you never wrote in books, that were designed to be kept, except perhaps to put in a note in a book that you were giving to someone.
I think a lot was about the fact that someone had created the book and you were dishonouring what they had made. I suppose you wouldn’t scribble on a painting would you?

If this guy does this he is targeting 1.5 billion people who have wills of warriors, including me, USA has only around 300 million. But part of that 300 million are American Muslims. He should do the math, There will be a WWIII and USA won’t be on the winning side unless they use their nukes to bomb everyone including themselves.

It’s comments like that that prove there are basket cases evrywhere! Most people, including Muslims, just want to live their lives in peace and get on with their neighbour. The sooner the good people of countries, like Iran, reclaim their democracy the better. And the sooner that Israel comes to realise that they can’t go on behaving like they do, the better.

To me, my Bible is like an account book or a pilot’s log, it is a working book – most Christians would agree with that. I highlighted and annotated text books at uni, if they were to be taken into the exams, since annotation had to be in the book, couldnt be on separate sheets.
I dont see a painting as being the same as a book.

I must say I’m very tempted to show my contempt for the crazy church in Florida, by printing a page of their web site and burning that! But then they might sentence me to eternal Hell and damnation. Judging by what I’ve gone through in the last few years, surviving ewould be a shoe-in.

They may be sedning themselves to eternal hell and damnation. Being a Christian I do believe it exists, and dont believe God will be very thrilled at their actions – they could repent but I suspect they think they are right and wont do that
