Guilty About An Act of Kindness

In Waitrose I was looking for some lemon juice, when something fell over (Not my fault at all!  It was only a bag of seeds, that had a mind of my own!) So I apologised to a woman of about twenty-five or so standing next to me and said I was looking for the lemon juice and couldn’t see too well because I’d had a stroke. So if she saw it, would she tell me! The next thing I saw was that she’d asked a member of staff and then she had retrieved the lemon juice for me from another aisle.

I felt rather guilty about it all and did at least thank her.  But probably not profusely enough, as I now feel even more guilty about not doing my own searching.

  1. Dont feel guilty – the young woman CHOSE to help you. She didnt have to, but she did. She now has the satisfaction of feeling that she has done something kind and helpful today. You gave her that opportunity, she took it, you have nothing to feel guilty about.

  2. I know! Especially as I would probably have done something similar myself in her position. In fact a week or so ago, I gave a pen to a young guy on the bus, as his had failed. He said what could he do in return and I said give a pen to someone who needs it in the future. We left the bus with a handshake and broad smiles.

  3. That is the way to be, be kind to someone when we have the opportunity, and accept a kindness off someone else with a smile. I am great believer in Karl Marx’s comment about from each according to his means to each according to his needs.
