Coffee in Bold Street, Liverpool

I had a coffee in Starbucks in Bold Street as I walked around the city.

Starbucks in Bold Street, Liverpool

I have a feeling, that this building was a coffee shop in the 1960s, called something like La Bussola.  There is nothing to indicate this and the helpful staff didn’t know anything.

However there is a plaque from a Merseyside Heritage Society saying that it was a very good restoration of the building.

  1. Interesting. I was in the group The Leemen
in the early 60,s playing on the Cavern at the same time as the Beatles. We used to have coffees in the La Busola. Remember the clear Pyrex style cups and saucers. The Odd Spot I think was also in Bold Street. Glad to say that there is a brick for us in the wall at the Cavern Club. Heady days.

    • I remember the Pyrex cup and saucers too! But they wouldn’t have been the only coffee bar with that type of crockery.

Sad to say it, but I don’t ever remember the Leeman playing the University. Many other Liverpool bands, good and bad did.

Good on you to have a brick in the Cavern.

But was that Starbucks, La Busola? My memory says yes, but then I’ve had a serious stroke. But I have a feeling that the Devil only buggered the those bits that stop you doing pleasureable things, but left the good memories intact.
