Keith Madeley MBE
I have received spam from someone claiming to be this guy and a company called HoneyPot mail. As my reputable spam filter marked his message as junk mail, I binned it. I suggest you do the same.
He might be a genuine person or he could just be a very bad e-mail marketeer. After all, I couldn’t find an unsubscribe on the e-mail, which is against the ICO rules.
I also got one of these emails. They seem to me somewhat (if poorly) targeted and I received the email at an address which is not publicised. Frankly bizarre.

YES, KEITH MADELEY IS A SPAMMER. We’ve received at least 20 emails from this clown in the last week. Unsubscribing is no help. I’ve replied informing him that if I get one more of these, he is getting sued.

‘Clown’ is a good description. And he has an MBE (or at least claims that he has one)… There is an unsubscribe link on the 2 emails that I recvd, but clicking on that hasn’t stopped him. I’m about to shop him to Companies House because his email doesn’t give the legally required information about his company (name, regd number, regd office address), and his web site doesn’t show the regd office address. But he is: HONEYPOT DIGITAL LIMITED, PARK HOUSE, PARK LANE, LEEDS, WEST YORKSHIRE, LS3 1AA, Company No. 06671298

I think I’ll send this pagev to the ICO and see what they say. But they are as useful as a chocolate teapot.

He’s been spamming for years. Yes, he’s a real person and has a genuine MBE (under New Labour rules). He’s on various committees doing good works, but one has to question his motives given his business model. His self-created Wikipedia page has recently been deleted as he was spamvertising it.
His companies claim to have “opt-in” lists; they are not. They have several of our honeypot addresses in them and there’s no legitimate way they could be there, and as others have noted, it’s not possible to “opt out”. By calling one of his companies “honeypotmail” he’s clearly having a laugh.
He’s circumventing the opt-out requirement by having a “Don’t mail me ON THIS SUBJECT” again. Yes, you can (possibly) opt-out of spam on the same subject but it’s never the same subject, is it?
Most of his mail comes from “market-your-business.com”, on IP addresses assigned to dynofusion.net (an associated company. This is hosted by node4.co.uk, that does have abuse()node4.co.uk address you can complain to. Or you could call Andrew Gilbert on 44 845 123 2222. They’re legit, but a long way upstream (they run his favourite data centre). If you want to get heavy and block all Madeley’s servers (along with other, probably innocent parties) the range is 83.166.160.0/19. I must stress that Node 4 networks (that IP range) is a bandwidth supplier – Madeley is just one of their customers’ customers. That said, complaining to anyone lower down the food chain hasn’t worked yet.

This man is starting to intrigue me. I’ve just searched the Yorkshire Post web site for him and he certainly appears a lot in the paper.

The Yorkshire Post used to be a reputable paper…
