The New Farringdon Station
The new longer 12-coach Thameslink trains are now running through the tunnels from St.Pancras to south of the river and Farringdon Station has been upgraded and lengthened to cope.
In a few years time, it will be the major interchange between Thameslink and Crossrail and one of the busiest stations in London.
The information on what they are doing is good to.
Note that the station used to be called Farringdon and High Holborn.

Came across your blog and enjoy viewing. I actually work at Farringdon station for LUL, moved there just recently and enjoying being part of the transformation. FYI the grade II listed underground station front will reopen on Febrary 6th with new gateline and restored ticket hall area, new larger circulating area but please note folks, entrance to the Underground only thats platforms 1 and 2. You have to use the sparkly new ticket hall oposite for national rail platforms and to buy tickets.

By the way, what have LUL done with all the jobsworths on the barriers lately. I haven’t met a supreme stickler to the rules for months. Not that I don’t obey them!
I don’t buy tickets though, as I’m too old for that rigmarol in London.

Cant say for certain, I work in the control room, but staff have been advised to use common sense(!!!) and allow customers through with minimal fuss given the working conditions, building works etc.

Oh just one more peice of info, should anyone wish to know, the new ticket hall is officalliy called, “The integrated ticket hall” and although its primarily used for National Rail passengers and buying tickets, the building is owned run and maintained buy LUL, thats why you see underground staff on the gateline as well as sometimes, FCC staff. Eventually around april I think their ticket office will open, a first for the station and come 2017(ish) the entrance to down to the new east west crossrail service will open.

Dalston Junction? nice before I moved to Farringdon I was at Highbury and Islington for 7 yrs, big transformation there with the London Overground service. Really enjoyed my time there, but pastures new and all that.

The Overground is good. They should take over the Lea Valley Lines and build a proper interchange at Hackney Downs/Central. The two stations used to be connected by a track level walkway, but it was taken down in 1944.
They also ought to do something with the stairways on the Lea Valley Lines. White Hart Lane was bad when I used to go to Spurs as a kid in the 1960s and it’s not much better now. A few more Stannahs would help.
Although, as an engineer, I think there must be a more innovative and better affordable lift. I see that the Barbican end of your station is getting inclined lifts for Crossrail.
There’s been some clever engineering lately by TFL. They did a really good job in getting the Western curve at Dalston in, without bothering anybody. i do like the passive smoke extract! We need more well-engineered things like this!
