Santorum Gives Up

I think this is good for the world, as he would have made one of the worst US Presidents ever.

With all the religiously-driven troubles around the world, the one thing we don’t need is an extreme right-wing Catholic, totally out of kilter on womens’ issues and humanity in the White House.

He should crawl back with the dinosaurs and reeducate himself about the real world, where contraception and abortion are commonplace and legal, women work and guns and the death penalty are something you read about in history books.

  1. I agree with you, which I rarely do on religious stuff. It for individual couples to choose whether they use contraception, and since there is a serious congenital abnormality in my family which is deemed “incompatible with life” legal abortion could have been essential for me. Thankfully it wasnt – but I wouldnt have been one of those women who went to term under those circumstances. I find the death penalty abhorent.

    • I’m actually pro-legal abortion for a different reason. When it was illegal, who do you think cleared all the mess up afterwards? And also because of the techniques employed, the mother was often in a very bad state or worse. So if we want to avoid abortion of all sorts except for a few medically necessary cases, we need good sex education and contraception for all. I think some of the Scandinavian countries and The Netherlands have got some way to this ideal. Santorum’s America would have been a nightmare.
