Lancashire And Funding Circle
Lancashire County Council and Funding Circle have got together to form what they call a Local Business Lending Partnership to lend money to small and medium-sized businesses.
it is reported in The Times today and the story has featured on the BBC this morning.
On the face of it, this seems to be a good idea, but why does the council need to get involved?

I think this is a good idea for the council to become involved as it shows a closer level of engagement with the business community and a willingness to become less risk averse and more proactive. It’s a disgrace that banks won’t lend to support business growth – what are they really doing with our money – they’re neither lending nor giving any decent return to savers.

I think that councils should do more on the publicity side rather than the actual lending, but getting involved is a good idea. As to banks, they’re finished. Nationwide’s latest adverts have got it right. All most people need, is a system to pay their bills. The government should withdraw from RBS and Lloyds as soon as possible and spend the money on infrastructure.
