One Of The Most Significant Places In My Life
After leaving Enfield, I took a nostalgic ride on a 121 bus to Southgate to get the Piccadilly line back to Central London. I pased this anonymous block of modern flats at the top of Windmill Hill.
So why is it significant. On the site there used to be a nursing home, which is where I was delivered by my parent’s GP; Dr. Egerton White.

My cousin Chris Starling was born at Windsmill in 1948.
Windsmill was designed by architect Alfred Henry Hart who lived at 28 the Ridgeway and designed a number of houses. Windsmill, 84 Windmill Hill, was a nursing home, but became sheltered housing for ‘care in the community’. It was demolished in the 1990s and replaced by Salmons Brook House.

I have a photo of Windsmill. But I can’t seem to be able to post in my comment.
