Express London-Amsterdam Eurostar Service Being Explored
The title of this post is the same as the title of this article on Global Rail News.
This is the first paragraph.
Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) has said it is in discussions with Eurostar to boost the number of journeys from Amsterdam to London in 2019.
The aim is to do the following.
- Speed up the call at Brussels.
- Increase services from two to three per day.
- Reduce journey times from four to three and a half hours.
All very worthy, but I think Amsterdam even in three and a half hours may be a bit far, as the time by air is probably quicke.

But when flying you have the hassle of getting to the airport and then getting there almost 2hrs before take off then the bother of getting from the airport to the city centre etc.

Assuming you want to go city centre to city centre then you have got: –
Transfer to airport – say 40 minutes
Check in, clear security, get to gate – say 30 minutes
Actual flight – say 40 minutes
Clear formalities – say 20 minutes (more after Brexit)
Transfer from airport – say 40 minutes
there will be some variation – you could fly from London City Airport perhaps, but likely to be pushing three hours and more fun than you can imagine.
The train journey has formalities as well, but just think how easy it could be if the UK dinosaurs had agreed formalities on the train or even joined Shengen like most of the other countries.

I’ve used the London Amsterdam service. It’s very good. Speed is not the only criteria to consider with travel.
