UK Energy Storage ‘Nears 4GW’

The title of this post, is the same as that of this article on ReNews.biz.

This is the introductory paragraph.

Almost 4GW of energy storage capacity is now connected to the UK network with a further 9GW in the planning process, according to a new report released today by the Electricity Storage Network (ESN).

It is a small article, where GW is mentioned nine times.

  1. GW?, energy is measured in Joules.

Well OK there are old imperial units like Therms and horsepower seconds…

  2. It’s sloppy journalism in the original article.

The best reports generally give two figures.

    1. The amount of energy, that can be stored in kWh, MWh or GWh. Electric Mountain is 9.1 GWh.

    2. The amount of energy that can be delivered in kW, MW or GW.

It looks like the journalist has got their GW and GWh mixed up.
