Countdown To Swiss Record Attempt: Assembling A 1.91-kilometre Train
The title of this post, is the same as that of this article on RailTech.com.
The article explains all the things that they do to achieve this ultra-long train, but they do leave out the why!
I can only assume, that they want to test the train software in the most extreme of circumstances and they feel that this is the best they can do!
Judging from what I’ve seen in the Swiss press it seems that Rhätische Bahn wanted a way to celebrate the advent of their 175th birthday by doing something spectacular and so they came up with the idea of assembling the trainsets and running them through their core route, the almost 120 year old Albula Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is the line you see in all portrayals of railways in Switzerland with its spiral tunnels and sometimes giddying viaducts.
You can watch it on Blick TV at 1:00 pm today.
