The Anonymous Widower

Pompeii

On the trip in June this year, I also visited Pompeii.

Pompeii is south of Naples and is just a few stops on the Circumvesuviana railway.

Pompeii is one of those places, that must be seen.  It is a World Heritage Site.

Pozzuoli

The main feaure of Pozzuoli is the massive Flavian amphitheatre.  It is the third largest in Italy.

Incidentally, Pozzuoli was the place where Sophia Loren grew up.  Now, there’s a glamorous widow!

North Rhine-Westphalia

These are pictures I took at Kleve, Xanten, Wuppertal and Altenberg in North Germany in July 2008.

I was surprised at how much history there is in this part of Germany.  Kleve is as in Anne of, Xanten is one of the largest Roman sites in north Europe, Wuppertal is famous for its upside-down railway and Altenberg has a superb cathedral, which is shared by both Protestants and Anglicans.
