Job Scam – Hyde Park Hotel

I’ve stayed in the Hyde Park Hotel and very good it was too.  But it is now called the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park Hotel, so when I got the e-mail below I thought something was not correct. It now turns out there is now a new hotel called The Hyde Park Hotel, so I suspect that the scam is based on the fact that the hotel has just opened and it has a very good name to use to fool people.

Good day, I am applying through online and Hyde Park Hotel send me an application form and other documents regarding my application. I’ve done in the documents for for signing with that documents and email them back for the documents. Then day past they e-mail me back again they advice me to Print the Employment form out and fill it up then forward the filled Employment form to UK Home Immigration  Office for your work visa process, through their e-mail contact address, ukhomeimmigrationbureau@yahoo.co.uk

Then after that the UK Home Immigration email me back they are requiring me to pass some of the necessary documents in order to process my visa. I have pass all the documents except one of their requirements and that is the LABOUR AUTHORIZATION CERTIFICATE from the UK Labour Department Office with their contact e-mail address, uklabourdepartmentoffice@googlemail.com

They require me to contact that e-mail address so I have send an e-mail that I am inquiring on their office about the Labour Authorization Certificate. Then day past I have receive an e-mail from UK Labour Department Office. The E-mail contains Labour Research Department, Department for Work and Pensions, Richmond House 79 Whitehall , London SW1A 2NS, UNITED KINGDOM , TEL +44703 180 4830.

Note that Wilson Larry or Larry Wilson does not seem to exist and I can’t find any other posting of this scam on the Internet, so it may be a very new scam.

Don’t ever send these crooks any money.

  36. My advice: Don’t send ’em ANY money.

    Comment by Magno | August 30, 2010 | Reply

  37. Magno, that looked like it came from the hotel. I assume it did, so it’s now absolutely clear that there is no job and it’s a scam.

But how do we make sure others don’t get conned out of money they can’t afford.

I would suggest that if you receive one of these e-mails, you ignore it. But you might phone your local radio station and warn others.

    Comment by AnonW | August 30, 2010 | Reply

  38. Calling my local radio station (I live in Brazil, and there are so many of them here) wouldn’t work, I think. See, I found their advertisement at the Graig List, but afterward when I googled it I noticed they have the same fake ad posted all over the internet, in lots of different online classifieds and jobs boards (though they change the hotel’s name sometimes). We can only hope people are smart enough to do some research before engaging in such a thing. I have done research even before they could have asked me for money, as soon as they asked me to send them a scanned copy of my passport (I thought it wasn’t safe).

    Comment by Magno | August 31, 2010 | Reply

  39. It’s education and the research it tells you to do that stops these scammers getting any money.

  40. This sort of thing has been around too long and can’t be exterminated that easily. After all, ANYONE can post anonymous ads such as this one on the internet and there is always gonna be people to fall for them. Too bad…

    Comment by Magno | August 31, 2010 | Reply

  41. Who was it said that there’s one born every minute. Sad but true! I have a friend, whose 98-year-old mother is always sending money to 419 scams and wonders why she never gets the millions offered. You would have thought it possible to have a mode in an e-mail program, that meant you couldn’t open and/or reply to spam.

    Comment by AnonW | August 31, 2010 | Reply

  42. Oh, I see..

    Comment by Magno | August 31, 2010 | Reply

  43. I hate scammers but it seems it be bad karma for lacking common sense. I found it extremely difficult to make sense of any of the writing.

All GOVERNMENT emails end in the domain extension .gov.uk they would never use free email account providers (as you mentioned)

I LOVE how they did the +4470 .. instead of 070 … but its a personal number, very expensive which masks on another number. Failing that, if you weren’t aware of that, an 07 number would be a mobile number (they are apart from 070) and a Government department wouldn’t have a mobile number as a main number to call. These days its like to be an 0845 if not an 020.

I assume they picked an 070 instead of 0845 as they intend to mask the number on a mobile phone number (otherwise for 0845 they would need to pay approx 30p minute to receive the call on a mobile).

Of course it is aimed at overseas… although the scam is a scam so is wrong, you shouldn’t be trying to buy your way in. It is a job, they should be paying you! First thing anyone would do is see the official website regarding visas before they even considered a job here. If they want to be an illegal worker then it deserves them right.

Comment by Flexible New Deal | September 1, 2010 | Reply

  44. The ad isn’t aimed at those who intend to be illegal, since it says the applicant will (ultimately) have to pay the visa processing fees (which are supposed to be “refunded” once he’s hired), and it’s intended to fool foreigners, since people from outside the UK wouldn’t know a thing about phone numbers starting with 070, 44, 0845 etc or about domain extensios for websites in England.

  46. I am very thankful to all who posted and shared their feedback here, these scammers are getting good, they used to try to give you millions via obscure accounts forgotten in Africa, but this is a new angle. I was amazed at all the detail they have worked out. I appreciate the heads up about the number series in England, that was a new one. Just be careful when you try to find work, now a days no one should be trusted when money is involved until you have absolute proof.

” Also remember that any Expenses you make on the process of

registering your documents shall be refunded back to you on joining.

As you submit your expenses report.”

    — That is the trap. They will soon ask you to pay some fees in order to have your visa processed, and they assure you that the amount you spend will be refunded as soon as you “resume in office”. But then once you give them the money you stop hearing from them and never get to see it back.

  59. I almost sent the 130 GB pounds yesterday thru western union as payment for the British labour approval certificate. I had second thoughts and search the internet about scam emails. The hotel employer where applied is the same as in the scam emails. Good thing i did not send. the money is already big and maybe there will be more to be asked.
Do you think i am about to be a victim of scam. Already partially perhaps. I spent a lot of time, work and money for the letters, printing and scanning of the documents. These were done downtown.

    Comment by tol | October 31, 2010 | Reply

  60. thank you Mr. Magno Lima and AnonW. God bless you for your help.
Is it not possible for you to post the real email address of the British Immigration and British Labour Offices?
Also the real telephone numbers of Hyde Park Hotel and other popular hotels mentioned in the scam complaints? Better if you include the authorized vacancy manager.
I have read some of the comments. It seem it differs in the fee of of obtaining the labour certificate. What is really the legal one if any.
    Thank you again.

  61. All of these messages are designed to extract money from you. There are no jobs at these hotels except through official channels, of which I have no knowledge.

    Comment by AnonW | October 31, 2010 | Reply

  62. I am surprised why these scammers cannot be caught.they already gave their names and addresses when they asked for payment through Western Union or other couriers.
I supposed they cannot claim the money transfer without the ID. Could it be that they are using ID with fake names and addresses?
Ok. I gave up.It is really difficult to trace these experts in their own field. We need a modern 007 perhaps.
Now it is hard to know which one is real or not.It is not fair to the real ones.Maybe the best thing to do is not to look for jobs on-line unless referred to by friends.
They sad thing is there will be others who will still be victimized. Many are desperate to get jobs. Some will know it is a scam, only when they have come to their senses or read this website but unfortunately have sent their hard earned money.Bye bye
At first even if suspicious, applicants always take the risk and later became attached or hyped after the exchange of letters.
One more enquiry. Do you know of Central Park Hotel, London hiring applicants for hotel jobs? I intend to believe that this is real.
Anyway as others will say,”TRUST BUT VERIFY’.

I must tell you, however, that while I was doing my research on that (before sending them the scanned copy of my passport of answering that looong questionnaire of) I came across the Hotel’s e-mail address and e-mailed them about the job offer. Here’s what I got:

on a lighter side, the original fictional 007 is british, but i can go with a brazilian.
most we can do to know if it is a scam, is to check their letters, invitations, offers and contact numbers and address, including testimonials of victims.

  84. Dear Mr. Magno Lima,

Based on the letters, documents and comments posted on this site, I have prepared a list of names mentioned that may have been “used”. they are as follows:

    A. To receive transfer of payments/fees:

    Severino Alves
    Lorenzo Rizzi
    Calvin Wilson
    Carolina Daniels
    Lord Frank

    B. “Authorized” name to letters:

    Wilson Larry
    Dave Banks
    Frank Ben
    E. Owen
    Susan Sinclair
    Susan Sinclaire
    Tony Martins
    Helen Chen

I hope the above list will guide the present and future applicants. The thing is to verify first.

  85. Wow, that’s great, Tol !!! =]

(and Severino Alves is a Brazilian name. Don’t send him any money. lol)

  86. What if Mr.A the applicant transfer payment to Mr. B the scammer. then report it to the authorities and the courier. When Mr. B claims the money at the counter, he is questioned and apprehended.
Will the above scene happens only in the movies?

    Comment by tol | November 7, 2010 | Reply

  87. I would think so, especially because it may be too difficult to track Mr. B down.. I don’t know…

Comment by Magno Lima | November 10, 2010 | Reply

    • Really difficult because Mr. B can claim the transfer in any branches of the courier within the country. Tracking can only be possible in a special operation, with the cooperation of higher authorities and the courier overall manager. The best is if in doubt, never send the money. It will save the effort of everybody.

CAN they claim the money that I sent if ever? They told me to send first the money before they send me the documents for visa processing

they also send me a picture of his family and the children to take care of.

    Is this is a scam?

  91. It sounds like a scam to me.

    Comment by AnonW | December 9, 2010 | Reply

  92. It’s probably a scam.

First – Sending a picture of their children doesn’t mean ANYTHING. I mean, those children can be anybody, even children whose pictures he got on the internet. That would be easy peasy.

Second – Why would he ask you to send him any money? How many people who move abroad to work have to pay the for the immigration papers and stuff? As far as I am concerned, whenever someone is hiring a some foreign employee he (the employer) must handle all the expenses.

But there is something you can do. Tell him you aren’t sending him any money now, but if he pays all the fees and tickets you’ll be perfectly okay with him deducting all he has spent now from your first/second salary. After all, if he’s hiring you anyway, that shouldn’t be a problem. Let me know what he says about it.

    ~Magno

  103. It’s a scam. And I suspect large numbers of innocent people have been defrauded. In the last post, note the spelling of Labor. That is US not UK.

Gp to the Police or your local TV station, so that others are warned.

  110. Hello everyone
I too was offer a private nurse job from Mr Basil Boyak on 16th April 2023. As he sent job offer letter and with agreements via email . Asked me accept the letter signed and after sacnning send to Home Office for visa approval. After sending email to Home Office for visa approval they sent me some forms to be fill and submit with require documents within 5 working days. And for visa approval process need to pay £624 GBP also they have mentioned that UKHO information documents contained constitutes confidential information . The information is intended to use only for intended receiptent. You are hereby notified that any dissemination , distribution or copying this documents by anyone other than intented receiptent will be strictly prohibited. I had some doubts on this so sent emails to Basil Boyak & home office, so far they haven’t replied.
I would like to thank this site & everyone for sharing your experiences otherwise I would the one get into this scam. Lucky open this site before proceeding.
