  1. Two or three years ago everyone in my address book got one of these, saying I was in Nigeria, alone, and had been robbed of all my possessions and could they send me money immediately via the manager of the hotel I was apparently staying in.

I am disabled and need help with personal care, and so I am unlikely to be alone in NIgeria, added to which most people know I generally avoid flying. I am a published writer, yet the spelling and grammar in the email was appalling. However, several people who received the email believed it, and were in the process of sorting out the money to send. So it is lucky that several people were online as it arrived in their inbox and made immediate contact so I could set in place a system for ringing everyone up!

It truly amazes me that these scams still work, but they do, even people who are normally sensible respond to them by sending money.

  2. Did you report it? Usually, the police ignore these things, but local radio and TV don’t especially, as you are not well and if the police have ignored it. Even if the crooks aren’t caught, it warns others. But if you type a sentence into Google, you’ll generally find a warning.

    • I did indeed report it, and I also reported it a few weeks later when someone hacked into my ebay account and bought things. They were fortunately unable to hack into my paypal account, so I didnt lose any money. It was all a horrible incident.
