Big Brother

I didn’t know that the odious Big Brother was still going, but whilst looking for something to see on my Sky+ box, I saw it listed on Channel 4.

I really think that my life has been improved by forgetting to watch it! In the past, I’ve often watched the first program to see what freaks they’ve dragged up this time.  But I didn’t even do that this year!

  1. I believe this current series is the last one. I dont watch it, I actually consider it to be legalised abuse in the name of entertainment, the people are put in there precisely because they ARE freaks, and because they wont get on together. Anyone who chooses to enter into something like that is surely not “all there” mentally. The only one of these sort of things I have ever watched was I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, because David Dickinson was in it, he grew up around the corner from me, went to the school my kids went to, although not of course at the same time, and I have met the guy, nice chap and not orange in real life. That show was interesting, the group actually jelled as a team and worked together, which was interesting for a psychology graduate such as myself to watch.

  2. But in that program, they usually turn the tables on the guards and everybody has a good time. Also look at the list of winners; Tony Blackburn, Phil Tufnell, Carol Thatcher and Christopher Biggins for example. None of these are freaks or scary.

  3. Yes, some of the people who have been on it have been quite sensible – I seem to recall Christine Hamilton being on it and coming across as a sensible sort of person. Certianly it isnt exploitative in the way BB is.

  4. If there is any exploitation, it’s the celebs getting their careers back on track. Look at Phil Tufnell. He was finished as a cricketer and now he’s a successful speaker, presenter and commentator.
