The Anonymous Widower

The Corner House, Newmarket Road, Cambridge

After the CT Scan, I was dropped at the Park and Ride in Cambridge and took the bus into the city centre.  I had the intention of seeing the film, Made in Dagenham before going to see Ipswich play Northampton in the evening.

This pub caught my eye from the bus and you can see why in the picture.

The Corner House Pub, Cambridge

You probably can’t see it in this small photo, but under the “Home Cooked Food” banner, it also says “Including Gluten Free”.

Now I’ve never seen any establishment, broadcast that fact in so large letters. Certainly, if you were looking for a gluten-free meal and you were driving past, you’d take notice and might try it.  They do have a web site.

Perhaps, the message is getting through.

A CT Scan for My Sinuses

I’ve had several of these over the years, but yesterday’s to check my sinuses was the quickest and most efficient.  It was also on time.  I think it is true to say, that all of these checks are now getting this way, so at last health practitioners are getting their systems right, which will benefit us all in improved quality of health care at hopefully a lower cost, as expensive machines running 100% of the available time must be more cost effective.

I should get the results in a few days.

But I am feeling better, although I still have a fair bit of pain in my face.  But it’s getting better, probably due to the small dose of Amitriptyline I’m taking before I go to bed.  It’s certainly making me sleep longer and probably slightly better.

Martin Broughton on Airport Security

He’s talking a lot of sense here.

The chairman of British Airways has said some “completely redundant” airport security checks should be scrapped and the UK should stop “kowtowing” to US security demands.

Practices such as forcing passengers to take off their shoes should be abandoned, Martin Broughton said.

And he questioned why laptop computers needed to be screened separately.

As to kowtowing to the United States, I’m with him on that one.  After all it could be argued that a lack of basic security checks in US airports allowed the atrocities of September 11th, 2001 to take place.

You defeat terrorism by being smart and getting everyone on side to fight it.  Not by alienating all the passengers by pointless checks, that might look good but are worthless!
