Tiptree Tomato Sauce

I found this sauce from Wilkin and Sons, the jam makers in Waitrose. It isn’t cheap, but you wouldn’t expect that from a quality company.

On the other hand it is rather addictive and goes well with the potato-topped pies I have in the freezer.

It doesn’t say it’s gluten-free on the bottle, but then it doesn’t say that on the jams or marmalade.  But none of the ingredients contain gluten.

  1. So drop a line to Wilkins…and say hopw delighted you are with thier product.
Ask them to put g/f on the labels…and say how sales will increase, (which they will) when we Coeliacs know its safe…

Some years ago…I met Mr Nairn, of Nairns oat cakes, at an event. He is a delightful Scottish gentleman…who listened to what I said about gluten/wheat free…and shortly after the packs on the oat cakes changed to say “wheat free”…

  3. I had this reply from Tiptree

The only product in our sauce /savoury range that is not suitable for Coeliac’s is Brown sauce due tot he malt Vinegar as an ingredient. Other products in our range that contain gluten are Christmas puddings and whisky marmalade.
