People Look Different on the Radio

I’ve listened to Louise Perry many times on BBC Radio 5 doing the traffic reports and I suppose I had a picture of her in my mind.

But today she appeared on BBC Breakfast and if it wasn’t for her voice and the caption underneath, I wouldn’t have known it was her.

But as the late great Brian Redhead said, “If television had been invented first, radio would be the dominant medium, as the pictures are better.”

  1. Radio is more fun to be on as well, I have done both and really didnt like TV, there was too much faffing about with make-up and lighting and stuff. I found radio much more relaxing.

  2. I’ve only done formal radio a couple of times, although I’m regularly on Radio 5 phone-ins. As to TV, I made a pilot tape for a possible reality TV program, where I might have been one of the experts. But it was canned. It was good fun though1

  3. Most of the TV has been formal documentary stuff with me sitting in a conservatory talking about some project or other. Radio was usually less formal, we had some fun, and they were often offsite at BBC studios, aeroplanes are a serious problem for outside broadcast around here!
