Don’t Blame Me I Voted Yes!
Usually, I’m the one who gets blamed for everything. After all, I’ve had so much bad luck and sorrow lately, that people feel that to heap a bit more on me won’t do any harm!
But if you’re disappointed that you voted Yes to AV and didn’t win, then you can’t blame me, as I did the same! At least though after the result and a good lunch with a friend in Carluccio’s, I had enough strength to take back the bottomless box to IKEA and get it replaced and buy another four!
One of their guys told me that bottomless Branas boxes are a bit of a problem. So when you buy them check you have the five parts and they are all strapped together. After all, what use is a Branas without an as?
Hackney did vote yes though, along with Islington, Camden, Lambeth, Southwark, Haringey, Oxford, Cambridge, Glasgow Kelvin, Edinburgh Central. It was almost 50:50 in Brighton. Spot any pattern here?

There is a pattern, but as a statistician, I wouldn’t judge them yet. The turnout was low in London, but there really wasn’t a standout pattern there. Some Consevative areas gave a strong No and so did some Labour areas like Brent and Barking.
The only thing I might throw in was that there was a lot of canvassing by both sides in central London boroughs, so did that give a higher turnout.
I think we should wait until someone with better statistics than me gives a definitive analysis.

Actually the pattern is crystal clear – the areas with more trendy intellectuals and alternative type people went for AV. Unless you think there is just as many of the chattering classes in Barking as Islington.

I think I’ll go along with that. In other words conservative areas, with a small cee, didn’t want change. After all most old Labour voters are very conservative and haven’t changed their views in decades.
I also think that there may be another factor at work here. Most of those reading the literature on the Dalston Omnibus were women and a lot weren’t white. As I said before I don’t make snap judgements and that may not be correct. I await a proper study with interest.
