An Eye for an Eye And We All Go Blind

There is this horrific story from Iran today.

That’s not justice, that’s vengeance.  Iran’s justice sentence may be worse than the United States in that they execute more people, but surely this is a new low?

  1. I agree it is appalling – although on a completely different level they would usually hold the woman responsible for what the man had done to her, suggesting she had somehow caused the man to want to do that by behaving inappropriately. Under strict Shar’ia law, if a man rapes a woman, it is the woman who is stoned to death in the market place.

That aside, their justice is brutal, having wandered in the deserts for so long with nowhere to imprison people they have a long way to go to catch up with modern justice.

Sadly, there will be people who are NOT Muslim in UK who believe he is getting what he deserves!

    • I’ve always puzzled why the woman gets punished for rape. The only logical reason is that she has reported the man in the first place in a male dominated society.

It’s like a child who reports bullying in a school. Often they get bullied more because they have told tales.

As to the UK, I wouldn’t even know how to acquire some acid and surely purchase should be strictly controlled.

  2. It isnt that the woman reported the rape. The belief is that women are responsible for men having “impure thoughts” and carrying out “impure actions” because men cannot, according to the belief, stop themselves from wanting to have sex with any female they see who isnt behaving modestly. So if a man rapes a women, he cant help it, it is the woman’s fault for behaving immodestly and causing the man to rape her.

hence the abbaya and niqab worn in many Muslim countries. In some cases, even the eyes are behind a veil of semi transparent fabric.

However, many younger women, having been on the internet, watched Western TV etc are protesting this concept. And some women are now wearing very pretty coloured and patterned abbaya.

    • What a load of old crap! Sorry to be so direct, but then I like to think I have moral standards not religion. After all many of both sides of my family were probably wiped out because of various forms of religious bigotry.

  4. I agree with you. But in male dominated society these are the things which happen, especially when many of the people especially the women, are unable to read the scriptures for themselves because they arent in their native language.

    • Strangely women in Iran are fairly well educated on the whole. Read Peoplequake by Fred Pearce, which shows how women in Iran have gone on strike when it comes to having children.

Printing and the Internet are the two most powerful forces against despots.

  5. There is a general disatisfaction within Iran, lots of people are coming out and seeking asylum in the West, and I gather that there are also a lot of “Jesus Muslims” – Muslims who have converted to Christianity. I have met a few who have come of Iran.
