Bus and Tube Information at Euston Station

When you arrive at the station in a city or town, you often need information to complete your journey to your final destination.

Bus and Tube Information at Euston Station

Most London stations have information booths like this provided by Transport for London at Euston station. I’ve never found such a booth in Manchester Piccadilly and I meant to check Liverpool Lime Street today, but forgot.

They say this about buses at Liverpool Lime Street on the National Rail website.

‘Arriva’ and ‘Stagecoach’ operate a network of daily, frequent bus routes around the city and also to nearby towns. For route maps and timetables: http://www.arrivabus.co.uk and http://www.stagecoachbus.com/merseyside

Liverpools main bus station (on Roe Street) is about 4 minutes walk from Lime Street station.

So should I assume there is no booth. How do you find out what bus company you need?

The same web site gives this for Euston.

Bus route maps are available from Transport for London’s website.

There is no mention of the excellent booth, although the link does point to bus maps for Camden.

There is also no way to contact the National Rail web site, to kick them into line. So we are just Self Loading Cargo left to our own devices.

  1. The Age of Steam . . . we would arrive at the Station, ready to go on a Steam Train Trip or arriving home. The special event highlight was going to the Railway Cafe, with fresh bread rolls & butter, soups, meals & sweets; all at reasonable prices . . . with plenty of smiling faces. Somehow, the fast food is not the same.

    Then instead of Help Desks . . . a man in Grey {who was really a Concierge . . . a mate} . . . with many Luggage Porters in Red Hats, & many other Railway Staff . . . in smart Uniforms . . . rady to talk & help travellers.

The Early Railways, were always a hive of commings & goings . . . ah for the age of Steam . . .

New Zealand, have many Steam Trains still running . . . and Australia has some great long distance trips albeit with Growlers . . . I still treasure working in one of Oz classic Rail Manaufacturing Workshops . . .

    • On fast food, Network Rail, who run the stations, is having a clear-out. Rebuilt stations like Kings Cross, St. Pancras and now Waterloo have banned burger chains, in favour of good coffee shops, cafes and real ale pubs. An Aussie wouldn’t understand real ale. They are even getting rid of burger joints where they can. They try to set the food at a level their passengers will require. So at St. Pancras, out of the dozen or so cafes, two or three are upmarket French ones.

Service is coming back. At Paddington recently, they were using young ladies to sort out problems. To make them stand out, they were wearing pink suits.

Also we’ve now got conductors back on some buses. They are more like Bus Captains and a lot of what they do is like the Train Captains on the Docklands Light Railway, which serves the east of London.

  2. Piccadily refurb is now completed, and there is a kiosk plus various stands with details on the them, and lots of signposts.

    • I’ve tried it and they know nothing about buses, which are in Piccadilly Gardens, which is quite a walk. And there’s little information there, that the average visitor would understand, as unless you know the route you want it’s useless. The buses should be adjacent to the train station, as in Sheffield, at Euston, Victoria and will be soon at Kings Cross St. Pancras. Liverpool is a four minute walk, but at least it’s all downhill.

  3. Real Ale . . . NO . . . the Aussies gave away dipping a red hot poker, into beer {to stop it freezing, so we could drink it} . . . however we have sent back Home {UK} . . . Fosters. . . . enjoy a refreshing cool Aussie Beer . . . in your Lovely Summer . . . the Olympics, and the Queen’s Celebratiuons.

Talking about Helpful People . . . the Meter Maids at Surfers Paradise, wear Tiny Gold Bikinis, and their Job is to top up Visitor Parking Meters before they get a ticket. However, they are very popular Helping Visitor’s Questions; and also being Phographed with Tourists.

    • The only beers I can drink are special gluten-free ones; one Spanish and one from Suffolk. I’ve never drunk any lager, except the odd real one in Germany. When I came to Oz about twenty years ago, I tried one beer in Alice that was so awful, I poured it down the toilet. It always puzzles me, that a country that produces such good wine can produce not one decent beer. But then the Americans are the same.

I was brought up on real ale; Adnams and now, I drink real cider, if it’s available. Otherwise it’s whisky or wine. When, I have champagne it’s often English, which is amazingly good. We have to score points over les Frogs!
