Measles On The Way Back

There are reports like this one, that show measles is on the way back, with a large outbreak in Swansea.

I was never vaccinated against it as a child and never caught it, despite the fact that my sister did.

I eventually caught it in about 1973, when my children all had it.  To complicate matters, I also had chicken-pox at the same time.

It didn’t leave me with any lasting effects, but for two weeks, I never got off the sofa, as I felt so wretched.

It was probably, the worst illness I’ve had in my life, from a point of feeling ill.

I would not wish it on my worst enemy.

So get those children immunised.  Those that don’t are stupid!

  1. Sorry James..but when we were small..there wasnt an immunisation programme…it didnt exist.

Measles was in the milder forms..only a cold with spots…but could also have devastating effects in adults…as you found.
Yes, there were such things as measles parties..were hopefully the germs would be passed around…and then it was over and done with by natural resistance being built

The immunisation programme was in the late 1970’s.

There was a rubella programme slightly earlier…especially for the girls…

Did have measles as an adult…and yes…totally covered..and sofa bound for about a week. I drove home from work with it…and really shouldnt have..but there wasnt an alternative.

    • I know it didn’t exist, but I did have all of the jabs going.

What worries me, is that some groups now don’t bother with immunisation. We’re going to see some terrible epidemics in the next few years.

Luckily, I’ve had everything except mumps, including scarlet fever.
