Is Facebook Going Belly Up?

This article in the Guardian, quotes researchers at Princeton University, saying that Facebook will lose 80% of its members by 2017.

They’ve compared the growth of the social networking site to an infectious disease.

I think it will have died, as something else will replace it.

  1. you are probably right James. I am on Facebook and enjoy using it, to keep in contact with old friends, and especially with nieces and nephews and their families who I don’t often see – in the case of one clutch of them, I haven’t seen them since they went to Aus as small children, and they now have small children of their own. I see photos of their weddings, and their babies, and today one of our little great nieces rode her bike without stabilisers for the first time, and the photo is there for us to see. I like the immediacy of it against the weeks needed to send a letter to from Aus.

But it will be replaced I am sure. back 2001 I remember spending the nice of 11th September in a 12 step chatroom that I used regularly, supporting people who were waiting for news of relatives who worked in and around twin towers. And it someone had told me that chat rooms would soon disappear I would never have believed it – in the same way there is much less traffic in the coeliac group but a lot of traffic on the coeliac Facebook forum.
