Should I Put A Camera In My Bathroom?

My bath, which is on the ground floor, takes about thirteen minutes to fill and usually I time it by the clock on the BBC Breakfast News.

I’ve had the odd overfilling problem, but normally it’s spot on!

I did think about putting a camera there so I could watch it fill from upstairs, where I normally sit, whilst it was filling.

But such a camera, might make guests think, I had a dark side!

On the other hand, it would certainly make filling a bath easier, but it wouldn’t be as good as the self-filling bath, I proposed earlier.

I wonder whether and if so where I can get an Internet enabled load cell?

It would be wonderful to click a button on my computer screen and then a few minutes later be told that my bath was full.

January 2015 Update – As the television is now working properly and I generally have a bath during BBC Breakfast, I now have a reliable clock in my bathroom.

  1. Bluetooth usually relates to sound, but could something be rigged up using that. My phone and iPod are both paired to bluetooth; I tend to listen to music on iPod using Bose Bluetooth headphones, but phone seems to cut into that when I get a text – haven’t had headphones long enough to know if it works with a call as I don’t get many. Headphones will switch iPod on and off as well. There must be some sort of wireless control system such as bluetooth which would do the job you want it to

  2. The technology is easy. All you need is a load cell under the bath to weigh it, so you know how full it is. This then shuts off the water, when it gets to a requested depth or weight. It could easily be controlled from a mobile phone or through the Internet. But no-one has put the technology together. I was doing things like this in industrial plants fifty years ago.

Imagine how labour saving it would be in say a car home or hospital. You just dial the bath temperature and depth you want, whilst you get the person, who needs a bath. It would save a lot of water and be much safer.

  3. It would be much safer; and older daughter, who has shown some expertise in flooding bathrooms when filling her bath, would be delighted to have one too!

    • I’ve seen that and it measures the water depth, which is not as easy or reliable as weighing the bath. I sent them an enquiry about something else and they didn’t reply.

  5. A simple system would probably add around a hundred pounds to a decent set of mixer taps.
