Oostende Station – 16th May 2018
I caught the train back to Brussels from the building site that is Oostende station.
I’v been to various stations in the last ten years or so, that are being rebuilt, including Berlin Hbf, Liverpool Lime Street. London Bridge and Stuttgart Hbf.
But not gave out the air that was shown at Oostende station.
- Information was non-existent.
- Floors were uneven and a hazard.
- Safety seemed a bit random.
- The toilets were tucked away from the station and run by a drogon, who demanded fees for something that looked very dubious.
It very much gave the impression that passengers were not very important.
Is this the best that Belgian Railways can do?

I’m shocked.
I remember Oostende from 1992, bustling, plenty of people and quite nice. I knew that when the tunnel opened it would be less important and less used but I didn’t realise it was that bad. Shame really.

I hope it will be all right when they finish it, but the design seemed to lack charisma. The stairs look cheap and nasty and I don’t like the coloured roof!
I also think, that by reordering the work, the pasenger experience would be better. They made some mistakes at London Bridge, but they had a plan thst eventually worked!

No… Belgian railways can do far forse then Ostend…. try Vilvoorde, in passaengers as important as Ostend.
Or Brussel-South, the countries largesr station Where the platforms are horrible
The cause is always bad planning which causes budget overspend…. so the work get paused

Thanks for your comment.
It explains a lot. Some things that would have made it easier for passengers during the works, were not done.
On the other hand, Bruge station seemed to work well.
