Take A 360° Tour Of World’s Largest Offshore Wind Farm In Operation
The title of this post, is the same as that of this article on offshoreWIND.biz.
This is the sub-heading.
Located some 89 kilometres off the Yorkshire Coast, the UK, the 1.3 GW Hornsea Two comprises 165 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW wind turbines and is currently the world’s largest fully commissioned offshore wind farm.
The article has a link to an excellent Ørsted video, about they access and service the wind farm.
Oh never seen a 3d you tube video before very clever. You get a feel for the scale of the setup here the awesome engineering and whats involved to keep these machines going (which is a lot more/MW than a coal fired station). Whats still madness is the amount of wind that got switched off on sat/sun just gone because the grid couldn’t cope with it. We really need to move to windfarms being forced to have batteries or green hydrogen so when there is a surplus it isn’t just lost especially as it was virtually free.
PS: to be fair Hornsea wasn’t one of the ones forced to switch off but several Scottish ones had to.

Gamesa, turbines suffer from major problems.
“Siemens Energy estimates that component failures may be occurring in between 15% and 30% of its installed fleet of turbine” and the reason behind its profit warning and share collapse. So the farm may not live up to expectations
