Residents Invited For A Bird’s Eye View Of How Mid Cornwall Metro Will Transform Transport Links In Cornwall
The title of this post, is the same as that of this article on RailUK.
This is the first paragraph.
Residents have been encouraged to attend an event at the Hotel Victoria in Newquay on Friday 9 February (10am – 7pm) and Saturday 10 February (10am – 4pm) when they’ll be able to see for themselves how the Mid Cornwall Metro, funded by Cornwall Council and £50 million of government Levelling Up Funding, will create a sustainable transport corridor through central Cornwall.
This is the last paragraph.
Another engagement event will take place at the Stannary on the University campus at Tremough on Friday 1 March from 10am to 5pm, and the Temperance Hall, Lower Market Street, Penryn TR10 8BH on Saturday 2 March from 10am to 4pm.
If the weather looks good, then I might go.
This page, with an excellent graphic, explains the Mid Cornwall Metro.
Its a good start, but completing the circle from Newquay to Scorrier would be good. I lived in Redruth for five years, and saw how disjointed transport was. Bodmin needs to be included, as does a tramway from Portreath to Devron on the south coast. The line from Par to Newquay is slow and rough, as is the coast route to Penzance due to its twisting nature. An inland route avoiding the coast along the seawall would speed up the line and stop winter closures.

I have a feeling that Baldrick has had a cunning plan. Okehampton will soon be joined by Okehampton Parkway. Okehampton has hosted InterCity 125s in the past, but supposing the coastal route is blocked, I reckon, they will reverse the Penzance trains at Exeter and transfer passengers at Okehampton Parkway to coaches on the nearby A30 dual carriageway.
Perhaps this is why Network Rail are looking hard at connecting Okehampton and Plymouth, so they can get Plymouth trains through to their destinations?
It’s also less than fifty miles between Okehampton and Bodmin Parkway stations down the A30.
They’ve just got to make the best use of railways and roads.
