Liverpool On The Brink?

There is a report today on the BBC that Benitez is going to leave.

No-one seems interested in buying the club, s perhaps we’ll have more of the same rubbish from a once-great club. And of course lots more whinging Scousers.

England won the European U-17 championship yesterday. Connor Wickham scored the winning goal.

Lose Eurovision and win the World Cup

Germany did this in 1974. We’ve done the first, so here’s hoping.

Mourinho

I will be watching the football tonight. Sir Bobby’s translator has gone far!

Heysel

Whenever we think of Heysel Stadium in Brussels we think of the terrible tragedy at the football match between Liverpool and Juventus in which 39 Juventus supporters died.

After lunch I took the Metro mainly to see the Atomium and found that it was at the same place as the stadium.

But now the old stadium has gone and a new one, now renamed the King Baudouin Stadium, has taken its place.

The King Baudouin Stadium, Brussels

I remember I was in Cheltenham that night visiting a client and watched the disaster unfold on the television in my hotel room.  I have had a lot of tragedy lately in my life and I don’t want to go through anymore.

Hopefully, I won’t see anything like that again.

Ipswich 1 – Doncaster 1

This was a typical end-of-season match with no-one really bothered about the result.  We did see a sweet goal from Connor Wickham and a rather dubious penalty, but not much else.

Except for the sun at half-time.

Half-Time at Portman Road in the Sun

Is there any other major ground where you can laze on grass before a match and at half-time? So the grass is plastic, but who cares?

Can anybody explain to me who sponsors Doncaster?  The logo on the shirts looked like the sort of squiggle of which a two-year-old would be very pleased.

Manchester to Australia

Just watching the Manchester City/United Derby on Sky.

The pitchside advertising says fly from Manchester to Australia on Etihad Airways.

You could be so lucky at the moment.

Connor Wickham

Keep it quiet, but Connor Wickham is getting better and better!

I have just watched the goals he scored made and scored in Ipswich’s three-one win at Derby.  Just watch the clip in this page and you’ll see he’s mentioned all the time.

Note his long throw that nearly results in a second goal.  If he can throw like that at just seventeen, is he the next Rory Delap?  He might be, but he’s certainly got an amazing all round game.

Dynamite Comes in Small Parcels

What I like about football is that it is a game where all sorts and sizes can be poor, good, brilliant or truly great.  I have just watched Arsenal be trounced by Lionel Messi.  Lionel is two centimetres shorter than me at 1.69 metres!

Even as a one-time Spurs supporter in my youth, I had hoped that Arsenal had won this one.  But they couldn’t!

BBC Norwich Get It Wrong

On the evening news the BBC in Norwich said that Ipswich had won 2-0, whereas in fact they had won 3-1!

But then they are just jealous that Ipswich are a league above.

They didn’t give any video clips either.
