I’ve Got a Ticket for Ipswich at Norwich

I go to quite a few Ipswich Town away matches, but I’ve never seen them at Norwich. This year though, I will be there, as they have what is known as an Alternative Priority method, which allocates a ticket to supporters, who have been to a given number of away matches.

What a sensible use of their ticket computer system. I suspect that they are not alone in doing this!

At Last A Win!

That’s probably the best thing you could say about last night’s football.

Not a Good Match

Ipswich lost two-nil and they really didn’t deserve more than that! They got a few good chances, but somehow they squandered them and they seemed to have the stuffing knocked out of them by Forest’s second goal on the stroke of half-time.

One of the biggest pieces of excitement in the second half, was some idiot who wanted to get on the pitch.  He was duly arrested and quite rightly got slung out of the ground.

I have been watching Ipswich away for many years and this season they seem to be attracting a few mindless fans.  I don’t know whether this is happening with other clubs, who used to have good records, but I don’t like it!

Off to Nottingham Today

Ipswich are at Forest today and I’m going.

It will be a train from Dullingham to Cambridge and then I change at Leicester for Nottingham getting there just after three hours on the train.

Coming back is again about three hours with changes at Ely and Cambridge from where I’ll get a taxi if I’m tired.  Or I might go to Carluccio’s for supper and then get a taxi home.

It all depends on how  I feel after the match!

Sometimes I Wonder Why I Bother!

Ipswich weren’t very good today and justifiably lost to Coventry.  They just never seemed to get going and when they did nothing seemed to come of it.

At one point I thought I’d had a bit of luck in that I’d drawn Coventry to win 1-0 on the bus.  But even that didn’t work out, as the referee gave a dodgy penalty to make it 2-0.

Ipswich Town Keep Another Clean Sheet Against the Azzuris

Well not really, but in the World cup, Italy failed to score against New Zealand and Tommy Smith and now last night, they did the same against Northern Ireland and Gareth McAuley! But they had been talking to each other according to this report.

Liverpool Fans are Making a Crisis Out of a Small Drama

They love crises in Liverpool and the drama over the ownership of Liverpool Football Club is typical of the city. They even wasted an hour or so, talking about this subject on Radio 5, yesterday morning.

Ipswich fans could complain about past messes that their club has got in, but to us, there are more inmportant things in life.

So perhaps Liverpool fans should get a life outside of football.

In truth these dramas will go on and on until the most successful clubs in the UK have some form of community ownership.  I doubt it will be like that of Barcelona or Real Madrid, but then who’s to say what will happen?

A Date in My Diary

Last night, the BBC repeated the program about the Coventry Blitz.  It reminded me that I shall be going to see Ipswich at Coventry on New Year’s Day. I shall of course visit both cathedrals.

I was talking to an Italian tourist at that I met at Mallaig about other places to go in the UK and I suggested Coventry.  He mentioned that the verb to coventrate, or lay waste by areial bombing,  is now incorporated into the Italian language.

It’s only the Result that Really Counts!

I think most Town fans went home happy with a two-one victory.  The Leeds fans certainly weren’t and were complaining about the ref and especially his sending off of Alex Bruce. But he was being roasted by Andros Townshend, so it would have happened in the end.

If I had anything to complain about, it was the overcrowded train, that took me back to Newmarket.  We need bigger and better ones!

The Damned United

In common with many other men of my age, I am not a fan of Leeds United or the Damned United as they were called in David Peace‘s novel, The Damned Utd about Brian Clough. The reason we don’t like Leeds goes all the way back to the 1960s and the infamous Don Revie side.

So it was with trepidation, that I took the train to Ipswich this morning to see Town play this afternoon.  They haven’t been playing too well lately and I felt that a draw was the best we could hope for.

I also went early and this gave me three hours in the town before the match.
