Wildlife Therapy
I went for a lovely walk this afternoon at Fen Drayton Lakes. Is trying to spot and identify birds with my perhaps less than perfect eye-sight, good therapy after a stroke? It won’t hurt, that is for sure. But I did see a common tern, lots of swans and lots of dragonflies.
I also spent an hour walking the stud. Sad to say that there is now only one baby duck, as the moorhens or something else has killed or eaten the other eleven. Saw quite a few hares too!
I’ve also taken to walking around the stud carrying a 2 kilo dumbell, throwing it sometimes from hand-to-hand to try to improve my left hand. Is this a good idea?
Walks are always good, physically and spiritually. Regarding the dumbells, you would need to ask a physio, I suspect a crucial aspect would be the liklihood of you fracturing a bone in your foot if you dont quite catch the dumbell.
Here is a link to a company called Tobar, who sell via amazon. I use the squishy mesh balls several times a day to help strengthen my hands, and I also use the “tangles” to help dexterity. I have given them as gifts to lots of people as well. It is worth having several balls, in different colours, because each colour is slightly different in the amount of strength you need to get the squishy bubble things.

My physio was very impressed with them.
You do need to keep them away from animals who might bite them, they have liquidy stuff inside. But they fun as well as therapeutic.

Yes, walks are wonderful therapy, especially if you are making notes about what you see. Its certainly helped me since Iain died, I walk along the riverside every day (saw 2 deer this morning!)
Keep up the good work
