Lady Macbeth
You may think that has nothing to do with my predicament, but they quoted her in an article in The Times today about cricket.
“If we could fail?” “We fail? But screw your courage to the sticking-place and we’ll not fail.”
Shakespeare got it so right!
Good on ya, James, as my Kiwi son-in-law would say.

I have been thinking about Lady Macbeth a lot recently. I am tracing my family tree, have been for years, and the line I am currently doing has a name which is Scots in origin and the name goes back to before the time of Macbeth, and is a sept of the clan of MacDuff. Despite the fact that she killed MacD, Lady Macbeth was a member of this sept, which makes me somehow distantly and vaguely related to her – it would be impossible to find out how, and I really dont plan to try.
However, she shares a lot of traits with that side of my extended family! Greedy, manipulative, out for what they can get etc etc

Remember if we go back that far, we’re all related to someone famous. My family rumour is that we’re all direct descendents of Lord Byron. They think that as he married a Millbanke, which is my mother’s maiden name, if you remove the e. But I’ve traced the family back past that time and it’s not true!
