Rubbish Disposal a la Paddington Bear in Hackney
If I want to get rid of anything that might have a bit of value, I just put it outside my door beside the street, with a note saying something like “Please give this sofa a good home!”
It always disappears! Whoever takes it can take it to the dump, when they find out why I got rid of it.

Recently we put a leather armchair out the front and I ended up helping a bloke strap it to the roof of his Golf. The following weekend we were in Brick Lane and my kids were jumping on the very same armchair and the same bloke, who didn’t recognise me, tried to sell it to me for £60.

Up here we use Freegle – aka freecycle.
People are not supposed to sell on things they have got free unless they have been advertised as something such as “bric a brac for carbooter”. I am amazed at the things people are delighted to recieve.
For a horrible moment I had thought you were putting PADDINGTON BEAR outside your house.
