Does God Believe in Arson?

I couldn’t believe the name on this picture.

Mountain of Fire & Miracles

But then I agree with Nietzsche about God. On the other hand I try to live my life against the humanist principles of some of the world’s great religions.

  1. The concept of fire in some of the Charismatic Evangelical Independent churches is nothing whatsoever to do with arson. At Pentecost the Apostles recieved gifts from the holy spirit and this was shown by the presence of tongues of fire above their head. Plus fire is used to purify and refine things, another theme in New Testament.

    • That’s as maybe, but in London if less time and money were to be spent on religion and used instead to support those doing positive things for alienated young kids, we might get less knife and gun crime.

  2. I dont know what goes on in London. Here in Manchester area a great deal is done by churches to provide and fund projects for alienated kids, to tackle knife and gun crime, to deal with issues when the clubs come out in the early hours and lots of other things. I would say in Manchester and Salford probably somewhere between 50 and 75%, are funded and/or led and/or use premises provided by mainstream churches, and these projects are there for the primary aim of supporting people not converting them to Christianity.

    • Most of the groups doing well here seem to not be supported by religious organisations. Not saying some aren’t but I judge what I see in the media.

  3. because of my background I tend to know who is behind a lot of the projects going on up here, even when it is not publicly in the media. In Manchester the other group who do a great deal of excellent community based outside their own faith group are the Jews. Muslims on the whole work almost entirely with Muslims, contrary to what many people would expect, there are a great many Muslim youth workers working amongst alienated Muslim boys and young men persuading them that radicalisation is NOT the way forward.

    • Some people here have said that things have improved quite a bit in the last few years, as Hackney now has a direct connection to the tube network, the City and South London, which means it’s easier to get a job. After all, jobs are the biggest factor in cutting crime.

  4. ‘If you’re aristocratic,’ said Nietzsche,
‘It’s thumbs up, you’re O.K. Pleased to meitzsche.
    If you’re working-class bores,
It’s thumbs down and up yours!
If you don’t know your place, then I’ll tietzsche.’
    Gerry Hamill (1980)
