Chaos Around the Essex Road
An accident, where a motorcyclist was badly hurt, closed the Essex Road in Islington today and effectively shut down the area all the way to Newington Green, Dalston Junction and Highbury Corner for several hours.
I saw the remains of the bike jammed under a van. It looked like the rider hadn’t been going slowly and carefully.
I hope he survives, but surely one accident like this shouldn’t be allowed to cause this much chaos. Whoever was at fault, should face the full force of the law!
As it is, in the end I had to walk all the way home from the Angel in the pouring rain.
Luckily all I was carrying was two ready meals from Marks and Spencer, so it wasn’t a bad inconvenience.

This comment disgusts me. I was in the area when this accident occurred. It was a horrific accident. It sickens me to think of that poor person and to wonder how they are now and to think of their family and of the van driver who must be devastated – I’m sure they wish that the worst thing that happened to them today was to be caught in the rain with their Marks and Spencers ready meals.

It was an horrific accident! My main point was that it seemed to take forever to sort it out. When I went past it was at least four or five hours after it happened. I also said that I was lucky, in that I could walk past it. Often I come back from the Angel loaded with shopping on the bus, like many people do. There seemed to be no plan to move people on. Where were the police at the Angel telling people to use alternative routes, such as by taking the tube to Old Street and then a bus? Quite a few of the Police seemed to be just standing around drinking coffee when I went past just before three.

I saw the rider impaled under the van, practically split in half. The site made me nearly vomit and I burst into tears.
To read this disappoints me that your priority is walking your shopping home. If you want to comment on the inefficiency in which the Police dealt with the aftermath, do that. Do not discuss how his riding may have caused this as YOU DID NOT SEE THE ACCIDENT.

I am sorry you did see the accident. As I said I was lucky I avoided it and it only caused me the slightest of annoyance, as I must have passed at leat four hours after it happened.
I do believe there is more to this than either you and I know. I will not speculate or pass any judgement until the reports are published.
Remember in the last three years, I have lost my wife and son to virulent cancers, so to me all deaths are personal and we should make sure that we learn from our experiences, so that we can give our best to society.
