I’ve Now Got Benign Positional Vertigo

A couple of times recently, when doing my morning stretching, I’ve got a bit giddy.  I’ve also noticed a bit of trouble, getting out of bed in the middle of the night. It happened again yesterday with my physio and he said it was Benign Positional Vertigo. Apparently, it’s caused by crystals of calcium carbonate in the inner ear and the cure is to use a particular movement, which is generally taught by a physio.

So I’m going to see a specialist physio next week and we’ll see how it goes.

In the meantime, I’ve cut out my calcium supplement and am going for walks, as this seems to help. But I’m also suspicious of this house and the sooner I get the air conditioning the better.

  2. I dont remember, she had exercises to do I think – it was after she left home. There was talk of her going on some tilting table thing to work the crystals out but it sorted before she had to. I will ask her

    • My physio’s sister is an expert in dealing with the problem. She’s another physio, who works at at private hospital in London. There’s a thing called an Epley procedure that tilts them back into place.

    • Is your daughter coeliac? There seems to be a connection, but it is on http://www.celiac.com‘s forum. Which is a bit suspect, in my view.

  4. She refuses to be tested, and at almost 30 she can choose not to, but she certainly has some food intolerances, including dairy from time to time. And her sister is now officially diagnosed gluten intolerant as well as dairy and yeast. She does have general problems with sinuses, ears, hay fever etc as well

    • I was properly tested, but I also have various sinus, ear and hay fever problems. I think, one trusted site recommended antihistamines for BPV.
