London’s First New Conductress
As my cooker has now gone, all I have to cook food is a microwave. So tonight, I took a 38 bus up to Upper Street to go to Carluccio’s.
I got a New Bus for London from the Balls Pond Road on my outward journey and by chance the same bus on the return. It was the first time, that the conductor on the bus, hadn’t been a man.
Note that she has taken up the surf position, that all London conductors, male or female, used to use on Routemasters and their predecessors, like the RTs, on which I used to go to school.

People make this World. We should go back to the future. On Saturday, my son took me to a Chemist shop : full of a whole range of products, PLUS very helpful Sales Girls, walking around TALKING to, & HELPING People.
How I wish, we could see Conductors on Buses & Trains in OZ . . . People Power.
The Conductors will generate a lot of support during the Olypmpics.

The reason for the conductor is partly Health and Safety, but as you can get on the bus at both ends and off at the back and middle, it speeds them through the traffic. On London’s Docklands Light Railway, the trains are driverless, but each train has a Train Captain, who checks the doors and looks after little problems. Effectively, they’re applying a similar system to buses.
