Dinner From The Microwave

The Times today is having a go at microwave cookers. It didn’t stop me from eating one of Marks & Spencer’s Fuller Longer meals tonight.  It was called Chicken in a Smoky Tomato Sauce.

It was surprisingly, quite well-endowed on the chicken front, although the sauce didn’t appear very smoky.  But I could do without that! The only allergen was a small amount of cow’s milk. Here’s a picture.

Note the Estrella Damm Daura beer.

I will have one of these again.

  1. Neil and I sometimes get microwave meals from M&S Food on way home from very long car journeys, and last week when he was off flying a tiger moth I got a curry for myself, and a lamb hotpot for Helen who is intolerant to more things than I am. In the end Helen didnt end up coming over and I had the lamb one the following evening. Both were excellent. I will keep an eye out for the chicken one you mention. Because of the problems with my hands, I am unable to prepare a hot meal safely from scratch.

    • The great things about Fuller Longer meals is you just pierce the film, put them on your dinner plate and then microwave full on for the time shown. You then rip the plastic cover off and put the meal on the hot plate. Not all are gluten-free unfortunately. But most are! I also have five M & S food shops within one bus ride away, including their flagship City branch on Finsbury Pavement. That’s only a little bit smaller for food, than their Central Liverpool branch.

  2. The two I mentioned were just the same, really quick and easy. And tasty.

  3. Thank goodness! it is hard to do with dodgy hands. And I only eat ready meals if Neil is away, or if we have been off somewhere and getting back late. The DS Beef Lasagne is quite nice, but you have to faff around with gently shaking the container, standing for 2 minutes, cooking again at different setting etc.

    • Chec out the pork loin with cider sauce, the cod mornay and the salmon. Some of the others aren’t gluten-free but they’re well lavelled on the back. The pork makes a nice Sunday lunch for one.

  4. Am anaphylactically allergic to most fish. So tend not to like the taste of the stuff I can have.
