Is This London’s Ugliest Tube Station?
I went to West Ham station today and took a few pictures.
It really is truly awful, unless you like piles of bricks. It isn’t correctly named either, as it’s nowhere near the Boleyn Ground and I suspect on match days, staff are for ever rounding up lost away fans. Crystal Palace station is another badly named one, as that is nowhere near Selhurst Park.

I guess it depends on your point of view. As someone who’s not from London, it looks nice to me.

In Oz the Early Stations a mix of Wrought Iron work, Timber & Formed Corrugated Iron . . . with ample Painted surfaces.
Then another Post War {WW2} upgrades to “modernise” . . . with materials of the day : Terrazo Tiles etc.
The Plastic Era . . . Upgrades Seats etc . . . were followed up with the Stainless Steel Era . . .
Today, the Modernisation has started again . . . with New Open Designs, more commercialisation, modern 21st Century Materials and as shown in some of your Stations . . . Sanitised Stations, without Character . . . people don’t use the Station as the Meeting Places of the Past.
Occasionally we find New Gems in Station Upgrades . . .

West Ham is a geographical place, not only a football team. Indeed there is also East Ham, and when these old Hams (hamlets/small villages) got larger, they built a new one to accommodate more folk, and with a great level of ingenuity decided to call it New Ham, or Newham as it is now called.

I know. It’s like one of the new DLR stations is called Abbey Road. Tourists have gone there and asked for the recording studios.

Apparently people go to the village of Alton, in Hampshire I think, looking for Alton Towers. You would think people would plan better, for instance if there were no football supporters on train does it not suggest that they might be on the wrong train. Or there are no brown signposts to Alton Towers. Incidentally, Alton Towers is very very close to the village of Cheadle, Staffs. I used to work very near to the Parish Church of Cheadle Cheshire. Lost count of number of wedding and funeral guests and family tree researchers we had to enlighten about the existence of the other one!
