Max Delays Force Job Cuts At Ryanair
The title of this post is the same as that5 of this article on The Times.
This is the introductory paragraph.
Ryanair is to close bases and cut jobs because of the continuing delay in delivering the grounded Boeing 737 Max.
It obviously was going to happen, as if you haven’t got the planes, you’ll have to cut routes and that needs less staff and fewer bases.
Similar issues (737MAX/787) have caused norwegian to hire in planes at great expense (including the HiFly charter A380 which is twice the size that their routes need and creates operational difficulties–different gates)

also casts an interesting light on Boeings current troubles–all started when they were encouraged to take over McDonnell Douglas (mainly to consolidate defence contracting)
Quote from article (which itself is a quote) “The joke in Seattle was, “”McDonnell Douglas bought Boeing with Boeing’s money.”””
Ryanair is in the fortunate position to be able to choose to cut (strongly profitable), potentially raising prices a bit, and is choosing to not hire (wet charter).
The recent repatriation of Thomas Cook passengers shows the extent of available spare capacity in the industry in the winter, less so in the summer

Agreed. But as someone who sold a company to one of Boeing’s rivals, I got the impression that Boeing act in a very different way to the other big aerospace companies.
I think they’ve been hoisted by their own petard.
