An Unusual Find In My Food Cupboard
I found this can of Heinz Tomato Soup in my food cupboard.
What happened to it?
- It looks like a half-eaten tin of meat.
- It is dated March 2014.
I never usually buy tomato soup.

What this blog will eventually be about I do not know.
But it will be about how I’m coping with the loss of my wife and son to cancer in recent years and how I manage with being a coeliac and recovering from a stroke. It will be about travel, sport, engineering, food, art, computers, large projects and London, that are some of the passions that fill my life.
And hopefully, it will get rid of the lonely times, from which I still suffer.

It must have had a puncture to make it go green. My mother had some tins of corn beef from the 1930’s and when she opened one it was perfect. You should send it back to Heinz as I bet they would be very interested.

I agree, tins of food kept dry and cool should last for decades.

Acidic foods like tomato, pineapple are more likely to go bad in cans earlier than other canned foods.
Usually inside of can is protected with a coating to slow down acid corrosion but that isn’t always perfect.
Worth keeping an eye on and rotating all tinned stocks to not let them age too long.
Tomato in cartons, tubes has quite short shelf life because the paper and plastic (or metal tubes) can degrade more quickly.
Very rarely cans will come off the line misfilled during a line changeover.
