Biggleswade Wind Farm

The Biggleswade Wind Farm is a small wind farm on the East side of the East Coast Main Line, to the South of Biggleswade.

I took the pictures as I went North to Doncaster yesterday.

  • The wind farm generates 20 MW.
  • There are ten turbines.

I was sitting backwards in one of LNER’s Azuma trains.

It was in some ways an experiment to get a general wind farm picture.

  1. Its travesty more onshore wind isn’t being built in England. Its far cheaper than offshore also tends to be closer to load centres so also helps suppress demand on the transmission system. I know its political but id rather have a windfarm on farm land than cover it with PV and take the land out of agricultural use and quite frankly they are more of an eyesore.

    • I used to own a stud farm and there were a couple of places, where a single turbine could have gone. With solar panels on the barn roofs and a battery, I could have been independent of the grid. We’re going to see a lot of innovative systems for farms, villages and isolated industrial sites.
